A Treatise on Loadout Point Costs: Wargear

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Wulf, Oct 20, 2016.

  1. I agree that points should probably be brought down.

However you have to take into account on the LP cost of things, not just the raw stat to point cost ratio in comparison to other gear, but there starts being a tax on the fact that you might get 2 or 3 stats/effects in ONE gear slot instead of needing 2/3 gear slots for similiar stats.

Obviously they don't want us stacking our slots full of gear everywhere so choices must be made. Again, I agree that things are either a little too costly or don't give enough stats for their current LP cost but it's something to factor into equations.

    This has been corrected, thanks.

Yes, I did mention that there are currently diminishing returns for wargear LP costs, and that it is probably a deliberate design decision by the devs. However, in many cases the diminishing returns are just too awful to consider. That's why I usually placed their current value a little higher than just the flat rate would be. I'm glad you agree that the diminishing returns are a little too harsh for what the wargear gives.

What needs to happen is lower the cost of anything not raw +hp/armor. Nobody would ever take these regen things, when it takes same price and slot of raw surviablity.

But then you take Shatterjack + Stormshield... and that's it, you are out of LP. Most often than not, when taking Mastercrafted or Unique weapons, you are bereft of any gear choices.

Same goes for pistols/knives, nobody has spare LP to other than defaults... taking Plasma Pistol at least somehow justifies the sacrifice.

  5. Some people speak very highly of faster armor regeneration delay and that they value it above the HP/Armour upgrades.

I wonder why? It helps you in no way to survive fights... so what if after you win (where raw surviability helps) you have to wait a bit longer? Maybe you have just lost the fight and you are dead now, if you survived 1 more shot you'd have won.
  7. I guess its because of regenerating while fighting. Especially against melee, if you block/clang/dodge long enough I guess your armour already gets back up.
Or if an enemy suprises you, instead of fighting a battle you have already lost, you can run around a corner and untill they have reached you you already have full armor back.

The thing is as Chaos I'm typically marked on all my builds (Slaanesh for life you Khornites!) So the big armour boosters are locked out. With regen it helps null those regen pains I get with MoS and just melee in general by affording extra stamina and I know provided I live through one fight I get value out of them. Stacking HP and armour to maybe survive one bolt to me is nebulous at best and wasteful at worst when I could be assured more consistent returns.

To the OP thanks for doing this ... i did it in the last build and was equally disappointed it seems to me honestly that if you commit 400LP + to a loadout style it should become slightly MORE LP efficient than if you don't, like if you are committing to being tanky (MoN + t2 armor) it should be more LP efficient per defense stat gained than if you only spend say 250 LP on defense .... same goes for offense. since the devs seemed to take the opposite strategy you don't really see any build commitment or diversity most players are buying the few items (10-50lp and first armor upgrade) and blowing the rest on weapons because after a certain point attempting to buy more mobility or defense is highway robbery, but you don't get diminishing returns on redrum(read backwards). there is already a diminishing returns on toughness outside the LP system ..... not that you could ever get there as fast as power weapons guinsoo/blackcleaver up all defense the only way to break through that wall for LSM or CSM is to spend 1000LP just to counter power swords(300-400LP) and im not even sure the other 2 races can even do it as i haven't rank 5'd all races yet....

the marks are a frustrating place .... the sigils yeah they cost way too much/or do too little like dang near anything in the game related to TTL that costs more than 150 LP(some of the 150 lp items are garbage too) ... but some of the marks are crazy LP efficient like MoN, or MoS especially when they are both "recovery" stats which only really factor in heavily after a duel has taken place and finished. but MoK loses way too much on its disadvantage for its LP cost and Tzeentch really has a very tiny opportunity to work effectively in the field as most fights are "to the death" and its advantages are in the "recovering from a fight" context.

What really kills me is the cost for support classes.
Sorc and apo really get hosed because of the cost of their support items.
    Heal nade - 150 LP
Improved HoT narthecium vile - 250 LP!!!!
I mean, you've basically already spent half your LP on just the basic support items for your class, and haven't even gotten to weapons amd armor yet!

Sorc has it even worse.I tried to make a tzeentch sorc the other day,and after putting on the tzeentch mark, heal(which still doesn't give xp for healing by the way),and damage spell....i was left with what was pretty much a default sword and armor with no trinkets! None of the damage spells are really even worth half a shit,i'd just like to be able to take them in a "flavor" build.

    Tzeentch mark - 150 LP
    Heal - 150 LP
    Flickering fire - 150 LP

450 LP just to be able to say i'm a tzeentch sorcerer!

Add on another 50LP because you have to take a pistol rather you want to or not.500 LP and you haven't even looked at anything else yet.

Oh,and they increased the cost of my RTC force axe in the last patch too, because i'm not already LP starved enough evidently.so it's back to the basic force sword.

I'd like to take that tzeentch necklace, but it's another 150 LP and that's just not even an option.

The just of this is that LP for basic equipment is totally dicked.

I get fancy weapons and armor costing a little more, but it shouldn't cost me half or more of my LP just to take my basic items.
