Personally i like the cinematic trailers. When i want in-game- footage its usually because im still on the fence on whether i should buy it or not. Id rather have an inspiring theatrical trailer and then go on youtube and look up the gameplay. Theyres always gameplay footage revealed before the game is on sale. Point is, in 5 years a theatrical trailer will still be magnificent to watch where a gameplay one will be along side hundreds of other gameplay videos on the internet.
SWTOR had great trailers but the game failed out the gate. I would want too see how the game really plays and not see some BS cinematic that doesn't rep. real game play.
I can't remember who posted it, but I REALLY like the idea of having a mixture of TT/cgi/gameplay. Like some sort of video of minis, that come to life/"transform" into the actual gameplay, etc. Something cool. Otherwise, probably just a video of Miguel Caron flexing his muscles and shouting HERESY!
It'd give me the chills. But a lot of people would say that it just ripped off Halo. Luckily, we can point to the founding date of 40k and say FUCK YOU to all of those people.
theres too many of them and not enough of us. lol after all these years theres still people who say that 40k ripped off starcraft or gears of war. Exactly. Except the game is going to suck regardless. Id rather have a great cinematic trailer and crappy gameplay than crappy gameplay and crappy trailer. If anyone buys a game off a cinematic theyre putting too much fate into the game anyways.Gameplay videos will be revealed before launch, just watch those in addition to the awesome cinematic. What im saying is that the gameplay will be the same regardless of trailer. You might as well get a cool looking trailer even if the game sucks and either way you should look at gameplay videos first before buying. Even gameplay trailers are trailers that of course try to make you want it. Remember Homefront? Everyone loved the in game trailers and it ended up being a crappy game (so i hear)
Cinematic trailers = hype, when you are close to release you need to show real gameplay, nobody should buy a game because of a cinematic...
