  1. 'Ere be anuvva' wun uv me ideaz I dun gotz in me Etarnal Crusade document I be postin' 'cuz why da zog not?
I know it won't get implemented wevva' it gets posted er uvvawise, and it jus' be collectin' dust in me document. Moight az well share it ta' get picked apart and wut 'ave ye by uvva's. Az me title sez, dis be a roight dumb idea dat won't eva' get implemented but I got nuffin' ta' loze by postin' it 'ere. Sorry it ain't toyped da way I'z uzually toyp

    Character progression:
Once you hit a certain rank with your character, you can choose to sacrifice/replace them to get a better character, similar to prestige. Here are some examples:
    Ork
    • When an Ork reaches X rank you can choose to sacrifice them to get a rank 1 Nob (Veteran).
    • When a Nob reaches X rank you can sacrifice them to get a Meganob or Cybork.
    • When any of those reaches X/Y/Z rank you can sacrifice them to get a Deff Dread.
    Loyal Space Marines
    • When a LSM reaches X rank they can sacrifice their LSM to get a rank 1 Veteran LSM.
    • When a Veteran LSM reaches X rank they can sacrifice them to get a Terminator.
    • When a any of those reaches X/Y/Z rank they can sacrifice them to get a Dreadnought.
    Chaos Space Marines
    • When a CSM reaches X rank they can sacrifice their CSM to get a rank 1 CSM Veteran.
    • When a CSM Veteran reaches X rank they can sacrifice them to get a CSM Terminator or Chaos Daemon.
    • When a CSM/CSM Veteran/CSM Terminator reaches X/Y/Z rank they can sacrifice them to get a Chaos Dreadnought.
    • When a Chaos Daemon reaches X rank they can sacrifice them to get a Defiler.
    Eldar
    • When an Eldar reaches X rank they can sacrifice their Eldar to get a rank 1 Eldar Veteran.
    • When an Eldar Veteran reaches X rank they can sacrifice their character to get a Wraith Guard.
    • When an Eldar/Eldar Veteran/Wraith Guard reaches X/Y/Z rank they can sacrifice their character to get a Wraith Lord.
Have these special characters with their own category, and force the matchmaking system to mirror match. For every Dreadnought there is a Deff Dread in the game. If their isn't enough to mirror match then they don't get put into the game. Allocate slots in the game for these special characters. Such as only up to 5 veterans on each side. Only 2 heavy infantry units on each side. Only 1 Walker unit on each side. If the game cannot find or mirror match these categories then it baselines to standard characters only [or to the lowest common denominator of available tiers].

If one side doesn't have any Veterans then neither side has Veterans. If both sides can have one walker then both sides get one walker.
If a Veteran from one side leaves, then matchmaking will search for a replacement Veteran. If none can be found, then sadly this problem will happen and they'll be replaced with a standard character. You can't fix everything.

    Unit Type -------------- Numbers
    ----------------------------- Standard -- Fortress
    Basic
    ------------------------ 10 ------------ 15
    Veteran
    --------------------- 5 ------------- 7
    Heavy
    ----------------------- 3 -------------- 5
    Walker
    ---------------------- 2 -------------- 3
    Total
    ------------------------ 20 ------------ 30

This new character replaces your old one. This would prevent many people form having one of each faction and just switching over as matches and players dwindle for their current faction. Choosing a faction would be an investment of time and character slots if you wanted to progress and maintain presence, however people could still stick around and have the basic class for each faction.

As you get more powerful your ability to find games might become limited, as mirror matching would prevent games where sides are unequal in terms of powerful units. Issues will still occur with people leaving games, but that is hard to help.

More powerful units will have an easier time ranking, conversely they will reward more points to players who kill them, which will increase the speed at which they rank.

With this system there are a few options for inventory, since you'd be sacrificing a character for a new one.
    1. [Dis be wut I'd want] The first is to have a shared inventory and requisition for each faction. That way you don't lose the loot you worked for. Only characters of the appropriate unit can make use of this gear though. [Dis be wut I'd want]
    2. The second is to get requisition on your new character equal to an amount based on your inventories total requisition worth. 50% of its total value perhaps, that way you could purchase gear for your new character.
    3. The third is simply to lose it all and start over with the new character, however this might [definitely will] discourage people from making a new character of that faction since all their gear would be lost.
AP would reset and gained by ranking as usual.
  2. i like the idea of being able to become a powerful unit.
...however the problem is that after a while everyone will have enough experience to become a dreadnought...so the matches will become dred vs dread vs dredd vs knight.

ooooh.... we definitely need 4-way matches soon :D

  3. Well da idea was ta' always keep dat limit on, only X dreads per match and such. Plus, not evaryone will wanna be a dread, at least I fink so... cuuld be wrong

Parhaps a method ta' also buff da wun characta' ye enjoy ratha' den replacin' 'em wif a moar powa'ful one wuuld be beneficial. Such as jus' 'avin' a roight gud shoota boy ratha' den goin' up da' ranks and gettin' a nob er a cybork

Also da' idea, at least fer me, wuz dat ye'd kinda pick only one faction and stick wif it. Due ta' populashun I know dis ain't roight possible er wanted, but it be part o' da silly idea. Dat way an ork playa' could 'ave dere basic ork, a vetaran, a meganob, and a dread, and ditto fer dem uvva' factions. Sumfin' loik dat. Er ye could 'ave a LSM dread, a meganob Ork, a chaos Demon, and a basic eldar

Da idea bein' dat yer moar attached ta' yer characta' and yer faction and dat ye'd have have worked up ta' get one toyp o' each unit. Gettin' a moar powa'ful unit ain't sum simple obvious choice, ye gotta giv up dat characta' ye worked on fer a while and put effort inta'. Sumwun wut wants ta' play a dread haz ta' go through each toyp o' unit and haz ta' try 'em out and may er may not learn ta' loik bits 'bout each wun. Wen games ain't gettin' found fer a dred, get on yer basic. No games found fer yer heavy? Try fer az a vet! I kinda dislike dis whole fing o' 'avin' one o' each faction 'cause ye got no uvva' use fer dem characta' slotz and ye already ranked up yer sphess mahreen ta' rank 6

it'd end up like how spacemarine ended up with everyone using thunderhammers and jetpacks, in that everyone would be in dreads. then there are no space marines and only dreads.
  5. Dat be why I reccomend ye limit how many o' each o' dem powa'ful units can be in each game
Hopefully all dem sphess mahreen wantin' ta' all be dreads at da same toim 'ave a backup characta' wut ain't a dread fer wen dey don't get inta' many if any matches. If'n evaryone be a powa'ful force on da battlefield, den nobody be a powa'ful force on da battlefield. Gotta keep dat bilge in line. Ye want da presence o' a dread ta' feel sphesul, not standard

hmm. chaos needs a way to play as stuff like bloodletters, or some sorts of demons. once somebody becomes a champion they should take on the characteristics of their chosen chaos god, unless they choose anarchy. nurgle marines should really turn into plaguemarines at champion, right?

they need to put in a lot of elite classes, especially librarians for space marines and perhaps flash gits and speedy gits. and they're using unreal tournament engine. their lore excuse is that you need a beacon to teleport. the one thing i remember about unreal tournament is that there's always a teleport beacon, so warp spider and teleporting terminators, as well as teleport pack for jump assault for 400lp

i really think demons and champions aquiring their god characteristics should be a commonplace thing for chaos. and there needs to be more fire and warp and sorcerers need staves.

  7. Oh most definitely shuuld chaos blokes take on characteristics fer dere chaos god, az unloikly dat be ta' happen. Also methinks I plopped demon vaguely in dere fer Chaos
    • When a CSM Veteran reaches X rank they can sacrifice them to get a CSM Terminator or Chaos Daemon.
Tis only a basic idea, didn't go inta' too much detail ta' add in dese fings. Though da demon(s) ye can become cuuld be limited on which chaos god yer characta' be a champion uv

And aye, moar elite classes, though I wuz finkin' dey cuuld get away wif not makin' az many due ta' gear. Sum elites only be diffarant based on dere gear, so I fink it'd be best if'n wen ye made yer characta' dat yer gear kinda became yer class/loadout fer da most part. Look at dem elites and see which 'ave dere own uniqueness ta' 'em and require dere own separate elite class, and which ones merely be specialized through choice in gear. Too many elites cuuld 'cauze jus' az many problems az too little. Simila'ly uze dis fer vetarans, 'eavies, etc.
An example bein' dem librarians, az ye sed, and marines. I fink dey be diffarant enuff ta' warrant bein' separate. Howeva' a flash git and a nob? Dey jus' be two nobs. Wun wit' basic all around gear and wun wit' lotza flashy dakka. Ye cuuld easily jus' make dem a generic nob wut chooses between gear. Now a nob and weirdboy? Dey be diffarant enuff dat I fink dey'd be two separate classes
  8. Git Kwik GitGud Active Member

fair enough on the flash git vs nob, but librarian and techmarine? or bloodletter and nurgling?
    Kaptain_K_Rool likes this.
  9. Demons wuuld 'cause many issues fer dat due ta' dem each bein' dere own fing really

Also I did mention librarians and space marines bein' separate classes
Unfortunately I don't know enuff 'bout techmarines ta' definitely say wevva' er not dey shuuld be dere own class. From da looks o' it dey jus' seem loik space marines wit' fancy arma' wit' dem mechanical techpriest arms. Cuuld easily jus' be a set o' arma' and change in gear ratha' den its own class, please cerrect me if'n I be wrong. Howeva' not any sphess mahreen can be a librarian (please cerrect me if'n I be wrong az well, know mostly 'bout orks since dey be me favorite race)

Basically, limit elite classes wen ye can. Don't go ova'board and ova'saturate 'em. Dey'd loze dere novelty
  10. you could do it like in Red Orchestra 2.[IMG]
EC could make it so that you first choose a class-slot and then you choose your loadout. that way you would only have a hardcap of for example 2 dreds and the first people joining the match would have the chance to chose first.
the problem is that in RO the classes where all very fragile so no class was more directly more OP.
but if it gets balanced it could turn out like the squadleader in RO who you would not chose if you did not know how to lead and play. if it worked like that then you could in theory find games that were almost full without dreds. however dreds are more about personal combat and endurance than the squadleader in RO.
    would love the customizability tho...
