I asked Brent that some time back, the reasoning was basically so squad leaders dont "abuse" the waypoint ability to greedily get XP. Which is kinda silly really, noones going to forfeit a match/point for a measly >70XP on some objective. They really should give squad leads the same XP. Squad leaders also dont benefit from the banner on their back anymore, even though other squad members do. That however is a bug, and when i sent a bug report about it the support staff said they have put it on the list of things to fix.
It is additionally silly, cause there couldnt possibly be any "abuse" since its squad leaders job to decide where his squad goes and if he decides that his squad should be around him earning xp for him, then so be it. I personally can't possibly understand what kind of action and on what basis can count as "abuse" of this mechanic.
And I want something for driving a rhino for 10+ minutes giving constant spawns to my team which are attacking the point I marked which is near the rhino.
I'm pretty sure I get the squad banner benefit as a leader whenever there is more than 2 other people from my squad near me. Hard to check since the benefit is so minuscule.
It may pop up at rare times but its broken and doesent apply the buff most of the time. Support staff confirmed it.
I want to believe this, but I've been team killed too many times by people shooting at already downed enemies. If they're willing to team kill for 30 xp I shudder to think what they would do for more than 70 xp.
Biggest problem squad wise for me is this, people who don't know how to be a leader are thrown into the position and then use it as a regular them. It doesn't just benefit them but all of us when you mark targets. I still feel as though there should be a system akin to the planetside 2 leader Tier where you unlock things and expand on the leadership role. Although a great Many people won't bother following orders through the game. squad cohesion is key to winning the game and I feel as if some people don't understand that even with xp rewards
