There is a corrosive agent of absolute misery that has infected our beloved game, one that has completely and utterly drained all the murderous joy and fun from it. Ranged. No not the Ranged community so you can calm down, don't get "all up in arms", its just the mechanic we're talking about here. You do want this game to be fair and balanced right? One that's multi dimensional and fair for all involved? one that people want to play? (because that's what a game needs for it to work) great. Now that we're on the same page there is a serious problem. If this huge imbalance of power is not addressed soon all we'll have is a one dimensional shooter like the hundreds of others out there only with a 40k tag on it. That ^ is not a game I want to be a part of and if it is not addressed I'm betting a large chunk of the community who enjoyed Melee wont be sticking around. Something needs to be done because right now? anyone who chooses Melee simply becomes a liability to their faction as Ranged is always the better option in all situations. Is this it? Is this the game we were waiting for, for all those years? Or are we going to do something about it. I loved this game, and if I've lost the will to play there are going to be countless others less stubborn than I who wont care enough to try and help. I'm out of ideas I really am. Does anyone have any clue how we can fix this because it feels like no one is listening.
You know, while you may have a point, it's difficult to take you seriously as when melee were overpowered you repeatedly said it was fine. Particularly though, I feel that boltguns and stalkers are a bit out of control right now. I'm not saying they should be nerfed, but if a boltgun is going to compete with and even outdo the high cost weapons, then it really should cost the same as them. What I'm most tired of though is the constant use of bugs to shoot through cover. It gets annoying real fast to have someone shoot at you from behind something, and you can't fire back. With the recent buffs to support, I question why people would use ground assault again unless you're Eldar. +20 armor is not attractive enough, they should have a +50 advantage over the second most armored unit, heavy or tactical, at least. And orkz need to have the same melee reach as the rest!
I think the only issue with the bolter right now is the CQC barrel. It's too good not to take, should have significantly higher penalties for long range shooting As for the stalker bolter... It should only have good accuracy when scoped in
i get crusader every game i play melee, yesterday i got 24 kills as jetpack assault. ranged isn't always better because ranged will have trouble 1v1 taking out a set up devastator, and also a large group, where jetpack assault would just fly over and drop a grenade, or in the case of the devastator, just 2hit them. ranged also has issues with weakness to ranged, something at least shieldbro has no problem with, but jetpack assault can also avoid a lot of fire. on top of all of that assuming you aren't just ramboing, the fact that the ranged enemy has to spam his DBASH to stop you from staggering him, which stops him firing, means that you can soak up that enemy's ranged dps for your allies. maybe even more than one enemy's dps. these classes really excell at sneaky play and flanking, but the shieldbro is a straight support class. i'll often just set up next to a devastator and soak up incoming fire, and hit anyone that comes close. i think the biggest problem is that there's no easy way to block DBASH spam as anyone other than shieldbro. while DBASHING at the same time is an option, if you start after the enemy you're screwed, so you have to roll. so actually i've been testing +1 stamina classes for this reason, since people get cocky after you roll twice. that said, tactical shouldn't have the capacity to just out-melee melee. the current DBASH system means you either have to dodge immediately as you get into melee range, or just DBASH immediately, so it's like a disease that spreads. when one tac starts spamming DBASH everyone starts to get DBASH spammed by any melee there is, so everyone else DBASHES more. suggestion: add wargear for chaos and ETC that works like the shield in the free hand, in that it can't deflect incoming fire, but it can swat Dbash in the same way shield does.
I remember when melee was overpowered around the time of the game's release. Ranged players were extremely frustrated, and they had every right to be. Eventually the imbalance was corrected, and for a while ranged and melee were pretty fairly balanced. The recent patch, it seems, has swung the imbalance to favor the ranged. I'm sure Behavior will do their best to fix it. But I don't think we really need to blow things out of proportion. However, the displays of emotion are useful. They show how frustrating the situation is, in a way that calm, collected arguments cannot.
Hm. So a shieldbro can give himself useful cover, jump assault can get close the distance really fast, and going for a head-on assault is a bad idea. So I guess my Howling Banshee is fucked, since she has no shield, no jump pack, and is designed for a head-on assault.
But she can run 30% faster, evade further and faster, climb and vault quicker than any of her opponents.
This is not about me, this is about the survival of the game you are playing, the one we all want to survive? you do want EC to survive right? And I never said that. There was a time (one time to be exact) when Melee came close to the absolute bollocks that Ranged is now, this time was during beta and lasted the duration of one patch. Around 1 or 2 months. I was getting between 40 to 60 kills per match easy, it wasn't ok then and it isn't ok now for Ranged to be doing the same especially post launch. These sorts of things should be ironed out before launch. Yes they are Yes they should be, all Ranged need to be brought in line for the health of our game. What I'm most tired of is Melee dps being brough to a stand still as soon as we get to within Melee range with an obsolete RPS durability loss system that has been rendered obsolete with the huge increase to ranged killing power. You know it takes a good 8 to 12 Quick attacks all at 1.5 seconds each to kill anything with a standard Chain Sword (factoring out Dbash and Strong Attack for simplicity) vrs 5.5 bolt rounds per second which can kill you IN THAT SECOND. Tired of it. Melee in general is just done. Years of development turned into the butt of the joke that has become Melee.
Considering that i still see mostly Melee Classes leading the Scoreboards... i have a hard time seeing how Ranged is so OP.
Melee becomes a liability if you're bad at melee, my issues essentially just boi down to how punishing one tac dbash is with the current TTK. But aside from that? it's fine, people just need to learn how to operate in an environment where they can't just face tank boltgun fire.
