And what at the end? if all campaigns will finish, we will begin from the first campaign? and this will be forever cycle?
I would rather have smaller world, but more detailed than huge copy pasted empty spaces. Unless you really need them to encourage tactics, plz no.
Dear Crusaders, I LOVE this topic but I am NOT the level designer (even less one as good as your Beloved Steven) so please take my following comments, ideas and intuition as if it was the opinion of another player and NOT from the Head of Studio. Steven answers overrule all mine. I am a strong believer in Authority always goes with Responsibility. Soooo!!! Humm!! I am looking at Eternal Crusade World Map (Lucky me!!) done by your ''most loved dev'' Steven Lumpkin with the factions own island + all the other VERY large continents where many campaign are held. To answer Crusader Gface, well..... the answer is way to big to just do it on a forum on a friday night but the answer is a big NO Crusader Gface because if we are to just circle between campaigns and continent then it break the immersion and removes one important pillar of Eternal Crusade which is persistence AND having a REAL goal with REAL impact in the whole world. Each continents will have different campaign and layers of campaigns going on at the same time. If a FULL faction actually kicks out ALL the others from a continent (that will be very hard to do since we have many challenges that grows when you grow your territory. i.e. Tyranid interest) than they can gather all the resources of that continent unchallenged except by our beloved Tyranids. That gives them a reward and helps this faction on the other continent. If we were to say ''Ok, you won. now please leave so we can wipe all your work on this continent to reset it'' Well.... I dont think you would be happy. Instead, we are working (this part is still early design) on mechanic to help other faction getting back into the continent. Steven is really better than me to explain this but my personal assumption is if a faction is powerful enough to actually push out all other factions from a continent and then they go into gathering resources etc.... the players that will do that are more PvE oriented..... so if an Eldar PvP centric StrikeForce of 100 players would sneak in that continent undetected...... they could surprise the PvE farmers.... and then all the past PvP players that left to go on other campaign/continent will have to go back home to protect it..... leaving the current new campaign they were one which will weakens then there...... then total warfare starts again. Its another example of Asymetric balance. Like I said, Brent and Steven design are not Head of Studio ready yet so I am speaking only from hearing hallway talk and seeing Steven's World Map. Really if you want a more official answer vs what I think it would be better to talk with Steven. He might not want to reveal ALL his idea but I am sure he would be glad to chat with you about it. Have a great Weekend Crusaders Miguel
If you guys have time you should get a live IRC Q&A with some of the Devs. Would be pretty awesome for communication.
Care to elaborate for the Amerish Syndrome? Is it that Amerish is pretty much abandoned, or it happens to be very popular. I play on Connery, so I really do not have any idea on the popular hotspot for other servers. On Connery, everyone and their mothers are at Indar.
