Hey, this is a thing a came across on wiki, here is the quote: A new planet every 3 months? Is this something the developers have announced? Can that really be done? I don't work in the video game industry, but i do know it takes a lot of time to create worlds in MMO games. And they wanna built a new Planet every 3 months? Don't get me wrong, i would love to see this happen, to see the galaxy being built planet by planet and come to life. But that being said, can it be done? What do you guys think? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warhammer_40,000:_Eternal_Crusade
If the maps and a lot of features are done procedurally, with only a little manual intervention, it is entirely possible. There are a lot of "planet generators" out there that are realistic and based on real science (and conveniently a lot of them are free-ware). After that it would just take people going in and adding the specific game elements and making sure things were relatively even.
Ah, this was a misrepresentation on our part. Campaigns will all take place on the same planet. They will be on different continents.
No dev said anything like that. They did say campaigns would last 2 weeks to 3mo. With a campaign being on diffident continents.
So I'm guessing we switch from one to the other every 3 months, therefore progressing the story (Probably not a good idea to leave them all open - or suffer the effects of amerish syndrome in PS2)
Good enough, if scales are not exaggerated, continents are, well, huge even on a relatively small earth-sized planet. Like if it literally took a week of driving a rhino to cross from one side to the other, that would be pretty awesome. yes, I know this is reaching, but it would be really neat.
I do hope that the continents themselves will be sub-divided into interconnected regions. I know handling borders might be troublesome, but by having several maps per continent we can avoid having "continents" the size of Guam.
