A lack of major media coverage...Is this intentional?

Ok so I've started to see a trend here. A lot of major media places are simply not even acknowledging this game has launched.

My primary source is mmorpg.com who now cover most online games with RPG systems. Anyone who frequents that site knows that the journalists there have been keenly following Eternal Crusade's development and even posting stream announcements on the reg. Its almost been a week since the game has launched and there hasn't been a peep out of em regarding EC.

Next, ign.com. Again nothing. mmosite.com ? nothing. Gamespot.com posted the Launch trailer...but nothing else.

I'll give famous youtubers a bit of time, like TotalBiscuit and Angry Joe. But usually for a game like this where they have expressed interest, they will put out a review pretty promptly. Only smaller youtubers have bothered to review this game so far.

What does this mean? What is going on? Why has no one acknowledged that this game has 'launched'? Is this an intentional tactic?

My personal conclusion is that most big websites do not regard EC as a Triple A / worthy game to cover. I.e. it is more perceived as an Indie title. What do you guys think?

I think that large press coverage is the LAST thing Eternal Crusade needs atm.

Oh I definitely agree with you on that. But still, I'm curious as to why it just hasn't been covered that much!

I think they want to lay low and finish the game then release EC 2.0 with the consoles. ATM, they're only getting negative reviews because it's not finished.

They wanted a soft launch, and i believe there will be more press coverage on console release, when they have something to be more proud of (I hope)
  6. Were in beta called launch. Harsh but true. The last thing they need is major reviews.

In one of the twitch streams this summer Nathan acknowledged that they had done next to nothing in terms of marketing and were still relying on word of mouth. Quite a number of founders also think that a quiet launch followed by actual marketing when the game is more presentable would be a wise strategy. I guess this is exactly what they're doing.
  8. Beta?
Still alpha bro, beta would at least have final animations and shit.

i dont its wise, its more the least worst approach.
i also think its incredibly cynical when you think about it, we are basically a glorified console beta, and we get to keep having this wonky unbalanced shit for an unforeseeable time, until they have launchdate for consoles, and then it remains to be seen how much they still will do for this game.

if i'd be a consolegamer, and heard this game is about to launch and i knew its already on pc, and see this kinda feedback...

Either way, whether the game will have improved significantly for console launch or not, we as pc gamers get fucked either way.

Hmm, so I guess we can pretty much call it an Indie release then. Just another one of those games on steam that either fail or flourishes based on the steam reviews.

So yeah, this game really is at the mercy of steam reviews despite what people think.
