Let's have a general speculation thread about our favorite pointy-eared faction here. Which aspects would you like to see? Which do you think should be omitted? Which vehicles tickle your fancy? What generally most appeals to you about snooty space elves? A couple of of the things I myself would love to see, though I rarely see them mentioned are Shadow Spectre aspects and Night Spinners for artillery. While we're at it, what are your thoughts on the implementation of a sort of webway gate system for faster transportation? What kind of executions and cosmetics would you like to see?
"I don't know much about the Eldar... except those that I've eaten, for I am the hive mind, ahahahah!" Personally, since I truly don't know much... probably an Eldar Ranger, or a Swooping Hawk.
I guess we can expect some classic on start. Dire avengers as basic unit, Grim Reapers as long-range heavy support, Probably, warp spiders or more likely swooping hawks as contraposition to assault classes. And... Striking Scorpions. Anyway more interesting - gender aspect. Eldars are the only faction amoung 4 who have female units at field and besides it will be too cruel to deprive ppl from beatiful eldar females. If they will be really cute it will help to solve some balance numbers issues. Lot's of gamers will have twink banshee
Been through that, don't get fooled by fan art of eldar, they are not beatiful in any way if they are drawn canonically.
Ahhh, that's, btw, an interesting issue to discuss, IMO. Where Lore ends & marketing starts. Obviously that making Eldar canonical alien race will make them as much attractive as Orks. If you are not the one who those prefer arrogance above looseness and specific orks' charisma. But I believe in more space elves style. Smth. similar to artworks of beckjan http://beckjann.deviantart.com/. I think he has a very good balance between xenos-like style & human-like esthetics.
I think that , at least in a first release, the harlequins should be left out. Too specialized imo and too neutral in terms of fluff.
Yeah man, I like just human faces and Eldar would be somewhat more attractive to human eye... On the other hand more canonic alien'ish look makes them more distinct. And I fruiting hate elves, maybe that is why.
I would like to see most of the Aspects of War, although I'm sure that several of them won't make it. I believe that Patrick basicly confirmed that Warp Spiders won't be in for launch in the Warp Spider thread on the beta forum, so I assume that Swooping Hawks will take their place since their jump-pack mechanic would be extremely similar to the Assault Marines jump-pack and much easier to implement. I think that we'll most likely see: Dire Avengers, Striking Scorpions, Swooping Hawks, Dark Reapers, Farseers & Warlocks, with the Banshees hopefully being included.
I guess, I'll repost my speculations from other forum, though in a bit corrected form: My gravest concern at the moment is how the Eldar get depicted in the game. The four races poster is not the most assuring - while the Farseer looks pretty neat, from the first sight I'm seriously concerned with this horrible chunk of two battered pipes in his hand. Is that supposed to be a Shuriken Pistol? Seriously? I'm restless until I see some other Eldar artwork, an appropriate one. The second point of my doubts is that the Farseer is the least possible class to be playable. Let's start with how the armies are divided in the board game: -HQ (commanding roles) -Elites (specialized heavy-hitting troops) -Troops -Fast attack -Heavy support If we analyze a bit, in dem Spess Mahreen picture we see a Terminator (Elites), an Assault Marine (Fast Attack), an Apothecary (HQ) and a Devastator (Heavy Support), but no Tactical Marine, the most common troop. Orkz are presented with the SM analogs, and we can see that the basic Ork Boyz, mentioned by the Devs, are not present in the picture too. It makes me speculate on having more classes than depicted, some basic Troop class for every race in particular. We know, that for Orkz their Troop class will be free to play. Maybe other races will have their Troops with some discount too?)) Back to classes, Chaos can easily present pretty straight analogs to the classes depicted for SM/Orkz (though I hope to see more diversity, it wouldn't be fair to make CSM just a repainted SM army). But what would we have for the Eldar? The basic Troops class is probably a Guardian, as it can't be more basic than this. Dire Avengers are very cool guys, I'd be glad to see them (not Guardians) as a Troops choice, but there are many difficulties with that. Every Eldar vehicle is piloted by Guardians, not some other warriors. Also the Avengers may seem to be a bit too cool for a basic Troop. HQ class will be probably represented by a Warlock, as he has a good mix of range and melee, and his psyker powers are not so complicated to implement game-wise as the ones of the Farseer, at least in my opinion. Fast attack class? It would be AWESOME to have Swooping Hawk - imagine flying at will, rocketing to the clouds height and diving down raining laser fire and bombs..... But that will hardly happen, I don't even start to hope. Too unbalanced - the other races would be no rival to such a class. The second option is Warp Spider. This actually may happen and could be very sweet to play and pretty balanced, as I see it. And another possibility is Shadow Spectres, they fit in too, though I don't know much about them, they are around for too little time to be cared for. Heavy support class? Could be only Dark Reapers, very badass guys, though I'm not their biggest fan, to be honest. Still, there are nearly no alternatives. Fire Dragons are not Heavy support, but I can see them in this role too. Elites I would totally LOVE to become a Wraithguard for a while, but that's very unlikely to be possible, "piloting" Wraithguards is not good lore-wise. They are not some suits, they are constructs driven by the spirits of the deceased Eldar. They are not good enough when autonomous and need Warlock or Spiritseer guidance, and are also pretty slow. Thus they aren't a good choice for player class. At first I thought the Howling Banshees could be a nice choice for Fast Attack, if given some charge mechanics to close up quickly, then they could paralyze the enemy and cut them down. But Banshees certainly lack mobility, they can not represent Fast Attack segment of the army for sure. But they are viable and gorgeous choice for Elites, and when Banshees manage to make their way up close, even Terminators are put down to sleep and see their red wet dreams. Striking Scorpions are wonderful too. Scorpions will need some stealth mechanics instead of charge. And they will be BRUTAL in the best sense of the word. I hope from the depth of my heart to see both Eldar melee classes in game. Fire Dragons are awesome, but if I had to choose, I'd never chose them over Banshees or Scorpions. Summarizing, the Eldar classes are much more predictable, when given some thought. The most probable list in my opinion would be Warlock, Warp Spider, Dark Reaper and Banshees/Scorpions, this last position is the vaguest for me. And if we get some basic class beyond the four, we'll get Guardian. Less hope for Dire Avengers. As it was said by the devs, sub-factions (Chapters, Clans, Craftworlds, etc) may have some differences in classes. So I imagine we could have Banshees as an Elites choice for, say, Biel-Tan and Scorpions for, say, Alaitoc. In the same way we could eventually see all Eldar Aspects presented in game. Maybe not at launch, but at least in time. Eldar army is an army of specialists, we need all Aspects of War God Kaela Mensha Khaine to be most effective on the battlefield. So the greatest concern is the looks, I want Eldar to be true to the best Eldar artworks out there. It's obvious that the Eldar are going to be the most low-populated faction, so we should be very good-looking, to appeal to those who is in doubts between Eldar and some other race))))
