I did a fairly through check of the forums and couldn't see this mentioned anywhere else which is pretty shocking. I'm sure someone will have said this before, and if that's the case, please link the tread in a reply and lock this one. Warhammer 40k has been around for almost 30 years, and during the past three decades there has been a staggering amount of lore conjured up by Games Workshop and its authors. Arguably, this is what a lot of fans are passionate about - the setting and stories which have been told within the Warhammer 40k universe. Something I, and I'm sure many others, hope is that the development team behind Warhammer 40,000 Eternal Crusade get their lore correct. There's nothing more immersion breaking than reading, watching or playing something to do with WH40k and thinking, "that's not right". Even when Games Workshop retcons something officially (I'm looking at you, Matt Ward) it can be a mightily jagged pill to swallow and rouses the ire of 40k fans everywhere. Steven Lumpkin (Lead Level Designer) has stated that the development team are "working closely with Loremasters" from Games Workshop (sources here and here), so, fingers crossed, hopefully everything will be spot on. Now, I understand some people will say, "The lore is a part of the other forums", and I agree. Yes, you can't have any of the Faction or Art sub-forums without lore seeping in, but they're not lore-topic specific. Lore is such an important part of what makes Warhammer special that I think it really does deserve its own sub-forum. SO! I created this thread to propose two things; firstly, a dedicated Lore Subforum where said Eternal Crusade Loremaster may (pretty please?) interact with fans and is dedicated to discussing and getting the intricacies of Eternal Crusade setting/story/fluff correct, and secondly, a place where we can post amazing resources of 40k lore, such as the Lexicanum, Warhammer 40k Wiki, 1d4chan, and incredible YouTube channels like The Vaults of Terra, for the benefit of both the Eternal Crusade community and the developers alike. The Emperor Protects.
For example, a concise description of the Imperial dating system which I found particularly interesting.
vaults of terra have a account here also other youtubers are on the forum. for the forum we must wait the return of anashel. I want to point a thing: games workshp, forge world and black library are all canon ( because are part of game workshop they are the same company) eveb if you don't like some book whit huge error. other source like paper rpg and videogame arent canon until approval: for example capitan titus of space marine it's not canon, it's from a parallel universe. Blood raven are canon but not all happened in the game is canon. eternal crusade if succesul can become canon. even if somethig is canon not all is true, can be false, propaganda, myth, legend, wrong transcription, wrong translation etc etc... because war 40k it's not a story it's an ambientation a background, not a rigid storyline. because the players must create and decide their narrative and battles
Really? That's really interesting. If the guy behind Vaults of Terra sees this thread, I'd like to give a big "Thank you". There's not a lot of people who would be willing to dedicate their spare time to something like that. It's a great channel which I'd love to see more of. Not entirely sure what this means. I'm assuming Anashel is a person or an abstract forum deity. I agree completely, and I'm guessing something I said was lost in translation. I wasn't disagreeing with any official lore, quite the contrary; I was saying that when it comes to people changing pre-established lore (be it officially though Games Workshop, Forge World, The Black Library, or third-party people like fan-fiction writers or games developers) it tends to irritate people. Never the less, I'm bumping this thread with some more Lexicanum goodness. Here are the stages in Adeptus Astartes initiation. From being selected at the age of 10, it takes a full 8 years of training and genetic modification to become am Initiate Space Marine. Does anyone have any interesting tid-bits of Warhammer 40k lore they've found? Would you like to see a dedicated Lore Forum?
Just dropping by. Anashel is the global forum moderator here. I believe he's having a vacation at the moment. So apparently, we have to wait until he's back before we can have any sort of sub-forums here.
ya he delayed his vacation from august to now cause he wanted to get the forums ready before he enjoys his vacation ^^ lets hope he comes back with lots of energy
I've recently seen some sub-forum movement; there's now different language sub-forums, which is a great start. In other news, Vaults of Terra have recently released the Imperial Guard overview. Rejoice!
In other forums, I found Locutus being extremely knowledgeable in 40k Lore, and he is fairly active here.
he made a good decision when he named it "the imperial calendar" instead of "the imperial dating system" - because I named mine (fluff for the uninitiated episode 1) the latter and have been virtually bombarded by messages saying people were disappointed because they thought they would learn about imperial courtship rituals.
There may not have been a sub forum or dedicated thread to 40k lore but there have been numerous discussion on this topic and a lot of debate on Game Play vs Lore. http://forum.eternalcrusade.com/threads/poll-straying-from-the-lore.629/ As for your worry's about the Devs and adhering to the Lore I don't think we have to worry to much, many of the Devs play table top and are fans just like us of the 40k universe That being said I agree with you and think there should be a sub forum dedicated to Lore would be great as a starting point to those new to the Universe.
