Melee should be more than slash spam to encourage experienced players to be rewarded for their practice. That said it would be fantastic if melee included Attack, Charged power attack, block, and counter. Control wise it would be nothing more than pressing or holding the attack or block buttons. Attack: is a quick hit of the melee button and is the staple attack to do damage, especially against non-melee specialists. Power Attack: A very strong strike that is initiated when the melee button is held for approximately 1-2 seconds. This is a risk vs reward attack and is tied to counter so should result in a good amount of damage. Block: Separate block button that is held to begin blocking. This negates 40-60% of the melee damage that is coming in, and can have increased reduction or even 100% reduction depending on the wargear (Stormshield, etc.) Counter: This is a twitch block, when you simply tap block at the precise moment of an attack you can counter it with a melee strike back at your foe, or even short stun (less than 1 sec) to flee or begin a counter assault. It should be very difficult to counter a regular melee strike, but it more intended to block and reverse an enemies powerstrike If a counter is failed the short stun is on the counter player leaving them open for a chain attack (Risk vs Reward) Can tie in race appropriate counters, such as an Ork batting away the attack and headbutt Space Marine leaping back and kicking Eldar parry into flank and shank Chaos sidestepping the attack and savagely bringing down their weapon onto the lunging attacker. Aside from melee having increased depth allowing for experienced players to shine it will make combat even more cinematic with sync'd power attacks and counters leading into executions given low enough health. May be even able to sell some really flashy counters and power attacks in the cash shop, I am all for rewarding the team on any work like this.
Lore accurate Bolters. I do not want to see more of the pathetic Uzi SMG Bolters that have been plaguing us for years. When I fire those .75 caliber self-propelled armor-piercing mass-reactive explosive missiles, I want to feel the power. I want to hear the terrifying BOOM as each bolt is fired from the barrel. I want to see targets violently EXPLODE into mists of blood, meat and bone. "A terrified man, his eyes wild, stumbled past her, heading in the opposite direction. I would most like to see them have some system of free-form building when it comes to guild controlled outposts/cities/structures, a fully fleshed out siege system for taking over OR destroying these outposts/cities/structures, and a resource system that is in place for the war/combat to actually matter in terms of the meta strategy of the game. The resources should be used to make all gear, and building/upkeep costs. There should be some form of resource outposts/extractors that can be fought over, granting resources to the controlling guild.
I freaking love and agree with the statements of Krage and Locutus. For me? I would like some short of semi-urban terrain to encourage close quarter combats and fighting in different roof tops or bridges.
I want melee to be as effective as ranged. Whether there will be abilities to shield the melee attackers or the cover of people they are attacking. I also want to see a bit more than just the basic attacks. I want to do more than just spam a button to kill someone - even if they aren't attacking me back. Give me 3 or 4 kinds of attacks that work like a combo for max amount of damage
