1. Toughness: defensive buff when you engaged in melee. 2. Backstab: rolling behind the target gave you time for a fast attack from behind. 3. Roll attack: rolling + fast attack towards your enemy was one move and you was immortal during it. Yes, melee was too OP in the days with all those features and one by one they were removed from the game. Now melee is completely naked against proper opponent. I spent 700 hours in the past playing only ground assault - I know melee in EC pretty well. Yes, even now I can score over 30 kills in tight maps against newby teams, but against experienced team its complete crap now. The only real use is to sneak and backstab with heavy attack - and even that against orks and chaos never works because of toughness buff. While I agree that melee shouldnt be a top scorers, but the situation now is more or less pathetic - you do not give any tools for really good players to shine. I think one of these 3 melee features should be implemented to the game again - toughness, roll attack or backstab. Please remind these things to "melee guy" when he will have a look on the current system. @NoahWard @Oveur
None of these features are healthy for the game. They were removed because they were either unfair or too easy to abuse. I also play the majority of my time as ground assault and I don't miss any of these things. What they do need to do is figure out how we can survive long enough to head charge into a room again like we used to. People seem to think that means a GA will wipe a room but those days are over with the reduction of life steal and the increased gun damage. Pre-patch I could do my job as a ground assault which was to charge in, maybe kill a guy or at least tie them up, which opens up for the rest of the team to come in behind me. Either I get some kills or distract them long enough for the team to charge in after me. Now I try to charge in and I just increase my death count while contributing nothing. Pretty much ambush or die these days. So GA is dead to me, long live the JPA.
This. You shouldn't be able to rambo into a point and clear it all by yourself. But on a 1vs1 with a range class, there should be a maximum possible range that you can charge in an survive to initiate the first hit (nothing more). And this maximum distance is too short right now. So GA's play Assasins Creed at the moment, waiting for the right moment to attack. That doesn't work im afraid, and i hope they tune it to a longer range
Seriously. I still don't get how people want a damage mitigation buff just for landing a blow. How does it make sense to be harder to kill just by smacking someone. A berserker I can agree because it sends them further into their rage. I get it would band aid melee for the time being but I still think just no. I play TA exclusively (most of the time) and I don't want this. I agree melee needs help but not like this.
The only way I was ever able to rambo into a point was running MoS and literally just played my speed advantage. It didn't guarantee me kills but it was a hell of a distraction and on the occasion I was able to get a few kills before I died/ran out the other side.
We never tried toughness buff alone, or roll attack alone. We had it all packed with backstab. So we do not actually know how that would work..
Why da zog are you quoting me and spouting off about damage mitigation? I flat out disagreed with everything OP said. I have no suggestions on how to fix the issue of GA getting into melee currently but it sure as zog aint that. It was a bad idea before and it's still a bad idea today.
