So if you can not bring up an argument, you link random posts? If the melee can't win in melee, what purpose do they serve?
That is the argument. Instead of typing it out again for you, I just linked back to it. Try reading it.
There is no skill in choosing 1 of 3 options. The skill is in estimating which option your opponent is likely to make. Unfortunately there is a bit of a meta and there are particular move-sets on particular classes that are extremely risky or difficult to directly counter. This takes a little bit of the psychology away from the melee system, since there is often a "best" move to make in some situations. Take for example fast attack -> Dbash from a ranged class against a melee attacker. Melee attackers never lead with Dbash because of the way the game works and how high ranged damage is (unless you're a crazy radical pro-level master at just-as-planned). A leading fast attack from the ranged guy is extremely safe when being attacked in melee. Either you clang and lose some durability or, better still, interrupt the melee guy's leading strong attack and get some free damage in. I love the mind-games, at the moment. I personally take long clang duels as punishment for not out-witting my enemy. I tend to find I only ever get long clang wars when the other guy thinks like I do and pulls exactly the same moves as me a few times in a row. The OP with two people just smashing each-other with fast attacks is hilarious and absurd to watch, for sure, but I would not for a moment consider it a serious argument against the melee system. This simply does not happen that often. Not gonna lie, though... our current melee system has problems... problems I can't even get my head around. I'm not even sure where I stand with some things anymore. Whenever you take the current system to extremes, things start getting ridiculous. The power-fist possessed is due to be a fine example. Assuming melee stuns get reduced in the near future, as per Noah's observation on twitch, it is likely that the power-fist possessed will be absolutely unstoppable in melee. He will most likely be able to kill several marines in a row without dying... and will be almost immortal with a sorcerer support. Whenever the number of melee trades required to kill rises above the number of clangs that player can endure in melee, that player becomes 100% incapable of killing their opponent in melee. This is what the JPApocalypse was... every tactical was 100% incapable of ever killing any melee class, since their "trades to kill" was infinitely high (due to dealing 0 damage in winning trades). YET at the same time, it is absolutely absurd to consider a knife blocking a power fist and barely shaking the knife user. A power fist should not even be blockable, in a continuity that makes physical sense... yet in game-terms, and unblockable melee weapon that 2-shots you is far too powerful, and leaves tacticals utterly helpless. I haven't decided yet... JPApocalypse round 2 for the sake of power-fists making physical sense, or durability buffs to knives to make sure tacticals can actually win melee fights.
Let's just put knives on par with pistols or pistols on par with knives. As in if knives can shut down and "hang" vs all melee weapons in a melee fight then Bolt Pistols should be able to "hang" vs all ranged weapons AT RANGE(15 to 100 yards). Problems solved. If you support how silly OP knives are right now and feel that ranged classes should be able to excel in melee than you should have no problem supporting the same criteria for melee classes and their ranged capabilities being almost as good as any ranged weapon at distance(15 to 100 yards), right? If not you're a total hypocrite.
lol "knives are OP" nice one To be serious it isnt knives that are the thing that gives the tactical advantage in melee against melee focused classes, its the fact that after dbash the most optimal response is shooting you in the head and killing you since ttk is low af instead of stabbing your face which should be the optimal response since a tactical has and atcual melee weapon and is not a full ranged class but rather a mixed class.
Eldar knives do 92% damage of the Chainsword and Power Sword. All knives have 100 durability, the same durability as Swords, Axes, Power Mauls. Knives(0 LP) can mitigate 100% of all incoming damage from Swords(300 to 400 LP), Axes(300 to 500LP), Mauls(300 to 400LP) and Power Fists(400 to 600 LP) for 2 to 5 clangs. Knives are totally free and cost no LP unless you use Mastercrafted. Yeah, i'd say they're op as hell.
Didnt even bother to read my post i see......................... And the tactical shouldnt be a full ranged class like the devastator and equivalents, he should have and option to respond in melee and what you suggest it to make the knife obsolete and give tacticals one MORE reason to respond with dbash and shooting you in the face
