And as I mentioned in the clangs go away post, dueling is for a melee game like Chiv. You don't have time to duel in this no matter what system because odds are there are 3-5 players nearby on one team or the other with an automatic rifle that will hose either you or the other guy down.
I feel like not many people actually played chivalry. The irony is that contrary to EC, you're not stuck dueling in Chivalry. Quite the opposite.
I quit around the time the 'dragging' and spinning like a ballerina to bypass blocks started getting popular.
You do realize that by tabletop rules, it should also be entirely possible to kill someone with a knife before they even get to throw a single punch(not to mention landing it)? Not to mention that even outside the source material we're adopting, it is entirely possible to parry a sword with a knife, and there's even knives/daggers that are designed not only specifically to do that, but to also ruin the sword/disarm it's wielder. Both IRL and within the realm of video games, there is tons of precedent for a knife to beat a larger weapon through user skill, or the weapon's deliberate design. This (user skill) is usually what's happening in EC. An argument could be made is that the melee system in EC being garbage makes the gap between a sword user and a knife on a bit too small(by rewarding a specific set of easy to master skills), but it's hardly "unfair" for the sword user when a knife needs twice as many hits and to win all trades for a pure melee duel to go in it's favor. Guns being a factor in the equation hardly justifies gutting the knives, since you would be breaking a part that works and achieve nothing on fixing the real issue.
Why I have a hard time taking him and other melee supremacists seriously. They kick and scream that melee is UP until it gets to the point where "I got in melee range so I win" claiming the ground meleer is at a massive disadvantage. Then once melee shifts to that level, go back to JPA to circumvent that disadvantage. I'm all for Melee being a soft crowd control/heavy counter by disabling primary weapons for couple of seconds on hit (and letting pistols still work) since this would at least force them into melee and even limit their options if they escape over the side of a ledge.
This is Warhammer. Knives are not the best tools. They are a last resort thing that you push into people who don't have chainswords. Also, you can't parry and should not be able to parry a power weapon with a non power weapon, because it cleaves through any matter.
If itz warhamma, why da zog iz dere only fiv fivs n a for otha boyz wiff me? Dats not enuf fer a proppa Waaaaaagh! Or maybe changes are made to a video game for the sake of balance.
I like to think that EC takes place in an alternate reality, where there are a lot more space marines, chaos marines, and eldar, and orks are all generally the same size. Everything in this alternate universe is powered by salt, and Arkhona is the saltiest planet in the galaxy. Also, for some reason, most if the wargear that would normally be considered rare is being mass produced, but at shitty replica quality, allowing all regular infantry to be outfitted with equipment that looks way stronger, even though it actually isnt.
Because in a video game, a melee class should just win in melee. That's called balance. They can't shoot you down, but they should be able to beat a ranged class in melee easily.
